I don't think they are because its specific design which has proven to work this gen. I mean, by limiting the player it forces creative play and mastery of advanced tactics. Don't get me wrong its great to have plenty of on the fly latitude. But it only appeals to those players who enjoy maximising on the available latitude. Whereas the majority of players stick to staple moves because given latitude is optional rather than forced. And, presenting too many combat options to those who are new to the series runs the risks of it being overwhelming. One of the issues raised against Bayonetta.
The problem is a lot of these types of games use a similiar control system simply because it works. What this Dmc needs is a customisable control system.
Agreed
A story which is identically experienced by every other player of a game is far less powerful than one that is unique to the individual.
I doubt the game will feature customisable controls tbh.
and i wholeheartdly agree with Vampi and Pressure666. i want to see Dante pushed to the limit of his physical ability. i mean i remember when you see bosses like Agni and Rudra, and your slightly intimdated. but then you remember Dante never gets hurt in the game (only a small bit here and there, eg Alastar DMC1). its like a Bugs Bunny or Roadrunner cartoon. they can never get hurt. and after dodging an attack from a demon twice his size Dante would have a casual 'whats up doc' attitude. this is something i want to see addressed in this game.
i remember there was something Tameen mentioned about seeing Dante's heart at one point in the game. that could be related to some sort of physical limits he has.

Yes 100x this. So far the enemies of DMC, with the exception of Arkham, Mundus and Vergil/Nelo Angelo, have given Dante a bit of a mental challenge in that maybe these guys aren't the ones to spew cheesy one-liners all the time, Vergil/ Nelo Angelo and Mundus in particular.
DMC 3's enemy personalities weren't bad. But wow did DMC 4's enemies personalities, with the exception of Berial, sucked so bad. It was like they took it out of the most crappy shounen anime and laid some extra cheese on it. DMC 2 enemies had no soul either (maybe Bolverk). DMC 1 enemies were pretty cool.
But yea, there has to be more then violence so actually make Dante more sympathetic to me. I want him to be hesitant or actually sometimes fail in his missions sometimes ya know. I don't want him to be some overpowered boring trope all the time.
Even if the morrow is barren of promises, Nothing shall forestall my return.

I saw this picture of the new Dante and it made me smile. I thought to myself "What if it was the hair?" This hair looks good on him, I hope his DT hair looks this good though.
An eye for an eye....A tooth for a tooth, Burn to ashes!
