I think they just have to do something,.
So do both as you gotta cast a wide net. You may never get the irrational on your side but you can get everyone else.
You gotta act fast.

Now that you mention it what makes someone irrational??
i find it interesting why these 'fans' who hate the game so much simply dont buy it or comment on it. if you dont like it you dont have to harass the people who like it, as we can see from things like youtube. and you dont have to insult Ninja Theory, simply dont buy it.
so i think in truth a lot of these fans are interested in this game, when it comes out they will most definitly get it. their expectations are founded in misinformation and conjecture. so i have feeling when some fans actully play they will be blown away by it. because for it dosent compute to some fans why any developer would want to create believable characters or an interesting story in a computer game. their expectations are not set for that level. and i think because they are not expecting these things to be interesting they will actully enjoy it.
well thats the theory anyway. but a demo at the same time could hinder that. some fans might not buy it saying the demo was bad. but not even play it. some fans might say the demo was really good. so i'm am concerned about this point. but i think a demo is needed, because Cap and NT are looking for new fans obviously and a demo is usually a key point to that.
besides when this DMC HD set comes out we will see how many of them platinum it. not many of them can hide behind this 'true fan' BS when you can look at their completion status of the games.
A story which is identically experienced by every other player of a game is far less powerful than one that is unique to the individual.
You have to understand that some fans honestly don't care about the story. Sad, but true. I call these Fans the Gameplay Meatheads or Gameplay Zealots, where what makes a game awesome for them is simply gameplay alone and no context. Those people more often then not want the highest frames possible and alot of variety in moves. Yeah that's great i enjoy them as well, but i also just don't want simply the gameplay to be good while the characters, storyline and aesthetic are a blight to the eyes and ears.
So i don't think completely ignoring the old fans for new fans who aren't familiar with the series is such a good idea. There just needs to be a balance between the two since the Longtime have more baggage and have more demands then the Casuals, tho some are reasonable and some are not. There just needs to be a compromise.

I'm sorry i disagree somewhat, Capcom want both old and newcomers to buy there games. You can't just completely ignore another half of your potential customers that have been with the series for awhile. Like i said above, there needs to be a compromise for both parties, some are irrational and some aren't. For me one of the things that i kinda agree with the Anti-DmC people is that Dante is too floaty in the air and that also the DT's special ability is kinda cheap. This is something Casuals would just take at face values because they were never with the series so everything will be new to them so they don't really have much standards. But at the same time there has to be some quality standard from the old games that also need to be in DMC, and from the looks of it NT/Capcom have some time to work out some needed kinks out of it.Vampi, i think thats the key thing with the demo. they will be trying to please everyone, which could be dangerous. a good idea i think would be to target the newcomers. these are the fans who are likely to keep an open mind and they will contribute constructive criticisims to the game since they are coming from an unbiased perspective.
I can somewhat agree but i've seen some Hardcore DMC players give out very good gameplay ideas that should've been with the series a long time ago (Air Stinger being one of them and now Bayonetta has that while DMC still doesn't) along with other technical stuff i won't get into. I'm sure Capcom knows alot of things and i do want to see what they have, but i also wouldn't shun what some players have suggested. But then again, those type of players are few and far between so more then likely Capcom won't bother with them anyway.Tameen has already said they are doing a lot to make sure they cater to the hardcore. and Capcom make the damn games, who would know better than them. there is very little doubt for me they wont achieve this. that is the point of Capcom overseeing the game so closely. i think they know better than a lot of these fans who havent actully played it.
I think the past DMC were pretty much accessible to newcomers with both the gameplay and story with mostly all of the games were pretty self-contained and were only connected by the mention of Sparda and a guy with white hair who had a liking to a broadsword and two black and white guns. Other then that Dante's personality was different, the story was different and the gameplay was somewhat different throughout the series. So every newcomer wouldn't necessarily needed to play one of the other games to figure out what was going on since DMC is an inconsistant series anyway.and i do want new gamers to get into this, mainly because NT are one of the key developers pushing storytelling in games. so for those types of reason i would like new people to come in and start talking about these games, start seeing DMC as more than an action game. so of course we just keep getting more!
I totally agree. They really need to start doing something. Look all of the hype the RE 6 trailer has garner and on top of that more info about the game. DmC is still as vague as ever with neither Capcom or NT giving us anything to speculate on. I'm not saying they should show all their cards but they really need to tell us the basic about things. All in all i have no idea what Dante's purpose is in this title and i have no idea why i should care for that Hooded Girl or why Dante should have to.
Some of them honestly don't really need to be answered because they've been answered already. You have to understand (and i'm not generalizing here) alot of the misinformation is due to basic reading comprehension or simply the twisting of words from some biased people. I've seem some legit concerns but i've seen much more unlegit concerns as well that its just tiring to even try to even bother quelling there doubts and fears.
A story which is identically experienced by every other player of a game is far less powerful than one that is unique to the individual.
Well yes in some way there marketing was a problem. The thing is every time they release info people are still angry (even after they answer those people's questions). Simply put: DmC Hater'z don't like what they hear no matter what until Capcom/NT say those magical words which are MT Framework 60fps, original Dante, and PlatinumGames. I'm just saying, NT is damned if they do damned if they don't. People get angry when there's info release and people get more angry when info is released. Its just a futile task to even give them too much consideration which NT/Capcom have been reacting to. They should let the design of the game dictate their decisions especially since none of the fans are involved the development process of the game.
Joe Juba from Game Informer brought up a good point in his Final Fantasy 13-2 review "Listening closely to fan feedback can be dangerous for developers, since gamers have different – and often contradictory – opinions of what needs improvement." Its in the 3rd to last paragraph in this link http://www.gameinformer.com/games/fi...get-worse.aspx
My thoughts exactly..
Everyone hated on the black hair: "Was it that hard to have white hair?"
Dante appears with white hair on DT: "Oh now you want the fans back by changing his hair, thats so low NT!"
Thats just an example..but really i don't think NT devs should pay much attention to that. Let the game speak for itself, and with time, if the game is good, all those "true fans" (whatever that means..) will buy it. If people go apesht just because the design changed they will change their minds as fast if the game is good.
Personally i wouldn't like PG to develop this game..the story would probably suck and design wise it would probably look more like final fantasy may cry 4... I guess
Its not only the hair and story situation but the engine and even the developer themselves. They want Capcom/NT to replace the UE3 that NT are familiar with a Japanese in-house engine that NT are not familiar with and couldn't understand even if they tried (since NT is an indie dev and they don't know Japanese and Capcom would not let them touch MT Framework because NT aren't a Capcom in-house dev), so its like asking for the impossible at this point. Would they rather NT mess up the game more with an engine they're not familiar with? Oh but that's why "true fans" want PG for, since ONLY PG knows how to make good gameplay and since their JAPANESE they have magical powers that westerners don't (because its a "scientific" fact that westerners can't make stylish action games, even tho no western devs have been given that opportunity). Since ya know, "real" DMC fans should only care about the gameplay...even tho they complain about the hair. Yea its all so contradictory that so sane person would even give those kind of points much consideration without making the game more of a mess.

You know how they say...haters gonna hate..lol
I also find hillarious that a lot of people complain and haven't yet realised that this is a reboot, when Tam said this from the beggining. "so tam now says this is alternate universe, so its not a reboot anymore?" Its the same damn thing... -.- lol but everything the devs said will be twisted for the worst..always
Just to give an example of good Western action games - I'm playing Darksiders right now and the game is great so far! Fun and challenging combat, loads of puzzles... Ah..must have been made by japanese people of course lol

Not just some way in everyway. What has placed them in the damned if they do and damned if they don't situation? Why won't people listen even now? I mean, the actual root of the problem.
What really gets me is why the hell hasn't someone actually thought about using the hatred (no matter how irrational it gets) to their advantage instead trying to fight it head on. Its not like Capcom are a lightly funded and inexperienced indie or arcade developer. Capcom are a multi-million dollar company and one of the most experienced in the business. Therefore, sympathetic courtesies which are extended to inexperienced developers simply doesn't wash with the likes of Capcom.
I don't disagree that listening fans to can prove disastrous for developers. But, its a double edged sword and its a very useful commodity when used correctly. There are plenty of games which back that up. Besides, just because the fans give input doesn't mean developers have to listen to it. Better to give the apperance of being humble and that you are listening (even if your not) opposed to telling people you aren't listening or stonewalling.
The root of the problem is regardless of how irrational some of the remarks have been. The fans feel ostracised, uninvolved, unloved and dissrespected. Things like Mt framework, framerate are nothing more than superficial hooks for people to vent about. Needless to say the root of the problem hasn't been addressed correctly and the developers have literally painted themselves into the elitist, uncaring catergory in many peoples eyes. I went through all of this twelve months ago hoping someone would listen and act pre-emptively but its too late to change it now.
Has anyone stopped to think what will happen to Nt if Dmc flops? Will it really matter how good aspects of this game are. The developer hasn't given people any reason to be sympathetic. To a point where even those who do care about this game aren't being addressed or supported and many having lost interest. Due to be ignored and drip fed literally the same information repeatedly.
So, why should people care what the developer thinks or reasons for doing what they're doing with the game? When the developer paints their self as not caring for what anyone thinks. And yet they still want people to spend their money.
