Default Enslaved: Sales Expectations and Sales Figures

I just happen to be wasting my time (i'm ill at the moment and i'm procastonating from doing work) and i was browsing through sales figures:

    http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=enslaved

According to vgchartz Enslaved to date has sold 0.8 mil copies. thats not too bad considering the expectations from Namco Bandai were 1 mil.

the reason this is even more interesting is because the title has sold about 35,000 copies since January this year, considering that it would continue to sell (those sales will continue to diminish of course, it wont sell at this rate consistantly) for the remander of the year it could potentailly reach 1 mil copies sold by the end of this year or maybe next year.

my point is this isnt necessarily a sales disaster as we originally thought back in 2010. of course the title is in the bargain bin now so the return from investment isnt that high, but still.

maybe we could get some of that DLC that was mentioned recently:

there is life after DmC, so i hope that at some point an Enslaved sequel will be on the cards!

With films it’s usually all down to the box office. If the film doesn’t cash in and make a profit then there’s no sequel. Games on the other hand, I’ve never really been sure how that works since they’re more like a DVD release if you think of it. I mean does a game have to surpass a certain quantity in a limit time before a sequel’s decided? Because you have to take into account that the price a game costs goes down after its release (I think I saw Enslaved in HMV for about £25 once) so I don’t know if that plays a factor. ^^ Still I guess it’s good about the 35,000 sales this year. Where’d you read that anyway A203D? o.o

And that is a surprise that they were originally going to consider more DLC’s. I always assumed it was only going to be Pigsy’s Perfect 10 and that’s it. I wonder if Trip would’ve been a playable character in a DLC at some point, but something to do more with evading enemies and solving puzzles.

Heeey maybe she would’ve gotten a mascot too, like Truffles. Aw that would’ve been so cute-

Er...on second thought, scrap that last part o__o

    http://www.vgchartz.com/game/44879/e...e-west/Global/

If you scroll down you will see a table of 'Global Annual Summary (Units)' reffering to how many units are sold in one year. that refers to only the 360 sales.

if you look at available platforms, you can click on PS3 and see that both versions have sold about 18,000 units since January this year. during 2011 Enslaved sold about 180,000 copies on the 360, for the PS3 you can click on the available platforms link and find out. but the point is it has been selling copies, not many but still.

so since January this year Enslaved has sold about 35,000 units. of course the game is now in the bargain bin so the rate of the return is probabily not very profitable. but if it continues to sell at that rate for the next 10 months, its possible it could sell over 200,000 units and actully make it to 1 mil copies.

so it will have reached its sales expectations. like i said i'm not sure if the game is still profitable, but it possible if they consider this a relative success, there is a potential to release a sequel at some point. maybe releasing some DLC to test the waters is an option for them.
